The West Yorkshire Playhouse is now halfway through its twentieth year, and The Courtyard Theatre is playing host to the fourth season of The Courtyard Comedy Club, beginning 20th September until 15th November.
Shows at The Courtyard Comedy Club will include:
20 September 2009: Rob Deering
Award-winning Rob Deering is one of the country’s finest stand-up comedians, having taken six solo shows to the Edinburgh Festival, taking part in Paramount Comedy’s Edinburgh and Beyond live tour, as well as headlining many major comedy clubs throughout Britain.
Rob has also appeared on television, hosting Soapstar Superstar 2007 – Bonus Tracks on ITV2 and Strictly Dance Fever 2006 on BBC3. He has guested on Annually Retentive, Big Brother’s Big Mouth and 99 Things To Do Before You Die. Rob Deering also enjoys quizzes, having appeared on TV quizzes when young, and winning a comedian’s edition of The Weakest Link.
In 2008, Rob took his solo show BOOBS 2008 to the Edinburgh Festival, and began hosting Comedy Congregation in London’s Madame Jojos, including guests Russell Howard, Lucy Porter and Stewart Lee.
Reviewers have said of Rob Deering:
“One of the leading stand-ups of his generation” – Time Out
“Ingenious and hilarious”
“Uses music to brilliantly accessorise his swipes at the innate gormlessness of contemporary culture” – The Guardian
“Truly wonderful stand-up” – Sunday Times
“As sharp and versatile as a swiss army knife” – The Independent
“Rob Deering is your new best friend” – The List
Support will be from Nick Page:
Nick Page turned professional 4 months after his first open mic appearance, following a bet that he is not sure he’s won. He has worked with with Steve Coogan’s ‘Baby Cow’ production company, and has so far presented three series of the BBC’s Escape To The Country.
His material is a mixture of cynical observation and storytelling, drawing on his useless degree (International Politics and Far Eastern History) and inability to do a proper job (he was an estate agent but is mostly cured). Nick Page is quite tall, some would say very tall, but that may be hyperbole.
The show is compered by resident comedian and Liverpudlian-in-Exile Silky.
“a fine show… great value for money. A smash success!” – BBC Leeds
“proper, connoisseurs’ comedy in a really warm environment” Leeds Guide
“always brilliant” Metro
