Seven Art Space Leeds
Take a group of dedicated, like-minded individuals who are committed to finding a way to promote arts and community spirit in the locality, allow them to simmer in a mixing pot of ideas for ten years and you end up with a venue like Seven: a vibrant and lively arts space delivering quality entertainment and culture to a diverse population.
It took a decade of effort, dedication and hard work before the group of local residents’ exhibition of ideas and possibilities culminated in the birth of the Chapel Allerton Arts Festival.
This landmark event ultimately resulted in the creation of a permanent venue from which to host a varied artistic programme of theatre, film, music, words, comedy and dance.
Lucky Number 7
The venue first opened its doors to the public in July 2007. Designed by OSA Architects Ltd, it provides a 100 seat studio with compact but versatile space for a variety of uses. State-of-the-art multimedia equipment and a semi-sprung floor means the space can be utilised for film screenings as well as for dancing and theatrical productions.
The name Seven reflects the founders’ concept, which was to bring the arts to the population of the Leeds 7 area: a geographical corridor full of different nationalities and cultures, with the determination to make the events accessible to all through a good location, well thought-out design and multi-cultural artistic programmes.

The centre is an independent Community Interest Group and a not-for-profit organisation. Run by a board of directors, the building and initial set up was supported by funding from the European Regional Development Fund and funds from the Leeds City Council and the Heritage Lottery Fund.
Additional revenue is raised by letting the space during the week days from 9.00am to 5.00pm with some dates available for weekend hire when the venue can be utilised by arts companies, promoters, business people, community organisations and members of the public.
A technician is on hand, if needed, and catering requirements can be provided by Bar Seven with a wide selection of beers, wine, spirits, soft drinks and coffee.
Seven offers the chance to hold any event, be it a rehearsal, party, dance or conference in surroundings that combine cool with cultural.
