The Parent and Baby Show will be a unique family exhibition.

The North’s biggest and best show for parents looking for guidance, expert advice and a great shopping experience. We are aiming to host the most diverse and informative baby show in the North which will be an annual event and judging by the interest we have had will go from strength to strength.

The show will focus on all stages of a child’s life and help parents understand that how we approach the child’s development years is crucial. Be that through the way we talk to them as babies, the food we give them to grow or how we live around them. In other words;

Inspire, Teach, Grow

We aim to present 2 days of exhibition as well as hourly seminars with addresses from key speakers and hands on bonding workshops for parent and child.

Exhibitor stands 2m x 2m start at £215 (ex VAT).

You may also like a ½ page in our show guide at only £65 (ex VAT) or send your company samples for our goody bags.

This exciting new show at will be held at The Exhibition Centre, University of Leeds in the city centre.

This show will enable exhibitors to:
• Reach their target audience to show off their services at their best.
• Drive sales.
• Build brand awareness.
• Introduce new products to the marketplace.
• Over 80 stands will be there.
• 5,000 people will be there.

Running alongside the exhibition will be 2 days of seminars and workshops for parents and industry professionals. These seminars are open to all ages and are included in the VIP ticket price. Most of our workshops are free for parent and child.

We will be giving away 1,000 day tickets to Sure Start Centers, Antenatal Clinics, National Children’s Centers and local parents.

April 3rd Vintage Hair and Makeup
1.00pm-5.pm
Join burlesque bombshell Anna Fur Laxis for a vintage hair and makeup session.

The workshop content will be tailored to the ladies who are attending and what they would like to go over, but in the main it will cover how she does her hair and makeup – using hot rollers, hot sticks and curling tongs, putting hair up into several vintage inspired hairstyles including victory rolls, using snoods/scarves/fascinators etc, vintage-inspired makeup, false eyelash application, and tricks and twists for make-up for parties & photo shoots.

April 17th Spring Clean Swap and Alter day

Clear out your wardrobes and bring them down to Fabrication for a big old clothes swap, pick up someone else’s cast offs and then learn how to make them fit you and feel loved again. You will learn how to take up hems, adjust waistbands , stop gaping and other hints and tips
Donate up to 10 garments or accessories, they must be good quality, clean and pressed, and take away the same amount you bring, anything left over will be taken to the local charity shop.
Bring clothes from 10.30, doors open 11.30, alterations 1-4
Refreshments, but not lunch, included.
You can also just come along to either part of the day.

April 18th Wedding Flowers 10.30 – 4.30.

Bridal Bouquet, Corsages, and Buttonholes.

Want to organise the flowers for your wedding but don’t know where to start then come along to our big bridal flowers day.

You will learn how to put together a bouquet and get hints and tips on how to treat your chosen flowers.

Also how to make matching buttonholes and corsages for the wedding party

Advice about flowers to bring will be sent to participants in advance.

Cost £35, refreshments and all floral sundries included, but you will need to bring your own flowers.

April 25th Make a Blouse or Shirt 10.30am-5.30pm

The next stage in our learn to sew classes and things are becoming more complicated, with the addition of sleeves and collars
You will learn how to cut a shirt/blouse pattern, apply yokes and patch pockets, inset sleeves, attach collars and add a button front fastening
Please note this is not a beginners class and you will need to know how to use your machine and have experience of sewing seams, cutting fabric and assembling more basic garments such as trousers
Please note all our classes need to be prebooked
cost £40+ materials, please bring your own and a pattern. Refreshments, but not lunch, included

May 15th Make a tailored dress 10.30am-5.30pm

You can now make a skirt and a blouse so today we are putting them both together to make a tailored dress
Using a modern, or vintage pattern, you will learn the techniques to set in sleeves, fully line, fit and finish a smart day dress
Please note this is not a beginners class and you will need to know how to use your machine and have experience of sewing seams, cutting fabric and assembling more basic garments such as trousers and shirts

Crafty Club 3rd thursday every month 6.30-9.pm
Because we all have projects we want to start/finish/ stop being bored of but get distracted by the telly/kids/hubby once a month we can get together, get inspired and finally finish them all with the addition of cake and gossip.

This is not a teaching workshop for a specific craft but a fun creative night just getting on with stuff 3rd thursday every month. Cost £6 inc refreshments and cake

Costume Clinic is for those making their own burlesque, theatre or historical costumes, of any description, who may need a hand to sort out problems they are experiencing with floppy bows, quick release systems etc or just an extra pair of hands and eyes to help them. We have now expanded this to encompass those of you who are still a bit stuck after the sewing classes and need a refresher

It will run the 2nd thursday of every month

Crochet Club 1st Thursday every month 6.30-9.pm

There seems to be lots of knitting clubs around these days but what about those of us who want to crochet. Well we have the answer. Come along to Crochet Club and bring your projects, wool, cake, gossip and tea. If you Knit, macramé, lace make etc you are also welcome

After our first showcase on the 3rd March with Cognosco went extremely well with an amazing turnout and over £180 raised for Cancer Research UK, we are now pleased to present the next in our series of showcases! This time teaming up with the lads from Louche to bring you another night of midweek fun all in the name of charity!

Since the early ’90s, Basics has been a clubbing institution, with the infamous promoter and founder Dave Beer at the helm, lauded for throwing parties quite like no other.

“I haven’t DJ’d out since New Year’s Eve, so looking forward to a session before I head out to the Far East for some shows,” says Fatboy Slim. “It’s always a treat to play one of Dave’s gigs, getting right in with the dancefloor. You never know, you might hear some of the new album, so looking forward to seeing you all.”

The city of Leeds has plenty of youth clubs for ensuring the youth of today have somewhere to keep them off the streets and to encourage them to become active members of the community.

Chapeltown Young People’s Club

Chapeltown Young People’s Club is works with people aged between 13 and 25 in the city of Leeds by providing them with a range of community projects, Leisure & Recreation, Media, Adventure playgrounds, Volunteering and Mentoring, Travel and Cultural Exchanges. The club also supplies IT training opportunities and internet access.

This is a great club open to the young of Leeds, especially those in the LS6, 7 and 8 postcode areas.

The Henry Moore Institute

The Institute also curates the British sculpture and archive collections of Leeds Museums and Galleries.

Henry Spencer Moore was an English sculptor and artist known worldwide for his abstract monumental bronze sculptures of the human form. Born in Castleford and the son of a mining engineer, he was responsible for introducing a form of modernism to the UK. Although he became extremely wealthy through his work he devoted most of his money towards the Henry Moore Foundation, established in 1977 – now the UK’s most important artists’ foundation which supports education and the promotion of the contemporary arts. The Foundation has a special interest in Leeds, the city where Moore began his training as a sculptor at the Leeds School of Art (now Leeds College of Art).

The Institute manages the Leeds City Art Gallery’s outstanding collection of British sculpture. Concentrating predominantly on British sculpture from the second half of the 19th century onwards, the work of successive directors including Phillip Hendy (1934-45) and Robert Rowe (1958-83) has led to Leeds’ reputation throughout the world as a major centre for the appreciation and understanding of modern and contemporary sculpture.

The first floor includes archive, slide library and sculpture reference library and an important aspect of the Institute is the opportunity it offers for research. An open house atmosphere is encouraged whereby people with a common interest in sculpture can meet and debate and generate ideas.

Enquiries are welcomed from academics and students with ideas for exhibitions and events. An evening talk series takes place three times a year as an accompaniment to current gallery exhibitions.

The library on the first floor contains 20,000 books, specialist journals, catalogues and pamphlets devoted to contemporary British sculpture dating from 1875 and there are rare books and journals from the 19th and 20th centuries with coverage of international sculpture, installation and conceptual art. There are also video, slides, sculptor’s files, auction catalogues and film works. On line resources include the notes of the controversial artist Helen Chadwick, available as eight three dimensional virtual notebooks.

The Institute also houses and maintains the Leeds Museum and Galleries archive of sculptor’s papers covering 18th century to the present day. Located with the library, the archive represents a diverse range of papers relating to British sculptural practice with contributions of photos and drawings from influential names including Henry Hugh Armstead, Quentin Bell, Eric Gill, Laurence Bradshaw and Barbara Hepworth. In order to view the archives it’s necessary to make a prior appointment by letter, telephone or email.
