The Story of International Women’s Day

 

International Women’s Day 2010


In 2009, with the theme Women and Men United to End Violence Against Women and Girls, International Women’s Day (IWD) inspired new heights of success with 984 events organised over 64 countries. Thousands of women of all races took part.
Every year organisations involved select a different theme that reflects global and local gender issues: this year in 2010, the theme is Equal Rights, Equal Opportunities: Progress for All – although individual countries or groups are encouraged to choose their own theme if preferred.
