How To Find Harewood House

Harewood House is located seven miles north of Leeds city centre in the village of Harewood.


By Car: from Leeds take the A58 out of the centre and then the A61 Harrogate Road for just over eight miles. Once on the A61 near Harewood follow the signposts for Harewood House.


By Bus: from Leeds, you can get the number 36 bus to Harewood. This bus runs three times an hour from Monday to Saturday and twice an hour on Sundays.

An informative illustrated talk from John Gregory, member of the West Yorkshire Bat Group, roost visitor and trainer for Natural England, followed by a walk around the lakeside to observe and listen for the bat species living at Harewood.

Please bring a torch and wear appropriate clothing and footwear.

Child tickets are free but must be pre-booked so we have an idea of numbers.

Americans abroad, Roy and Jessie finished a volunteer stint in China. He loves trains, so they go home via the Trans-Siberia Express. There are strains in the relationship, including her past.

They meet Carlos, a Spaniard, traveling with Abby, a young American. Carlos keeps close to Jessie, and when Roy is left behind and waits a day for the next train so he can catch up, Jessie and Carlos take a trip into the dead of winter to photograph a ruined church. Carlos may be running drugs, so, later, when Roy catches up and introduces Jessie to his new pal, an English speaking Russian narcotics detective, he’s the last person Jessie wants to see. A big personality with a big voice to match. And she’s from Yorkshire… How could Sir Michael Parkinson not be on her side! Sarah Mitchell is a star in the making. In September 2007 Sarah signed a 3 album recording deal with Candid Records. Since then Sarah has performed alongside Jamie Cullum and recently supported James Blunt at the 2009 Dubai Jazz Festival. Sarah has just released her debut album ‘You Give Me Something’ on Candid records.

Singer/Songwriter Sarah Mitchell knew at a very young age that she wanted to be a singer. She was known at school as the girl that sang, whether at mass, in school plays, or music concerts. You name it she’d be using it to test out her windpipes. Sarah won herself a place at the famous Paul McCartney School in Liverpool – LIPA. Whilst there Sarah was asked to sing for Paul McCartney’s VIP party, an incredible honour which she took in her stride. On graduating Sarah took several jobs starring in musical reviews all over the world gaining invaluable experience on repertoire from Broadway shows and the Great American Songbook before returning to Leeds and starting to reassess her career. “I got back into doing what I really love,” she says, “working with musicians and singing Jazz, and then everything began to fall into place. I began songwriting again for the first time in years.”

Over the weekend, we will be hosting over 20 vintage stallholders, selling everything from clothing and accessories, to homeware, music, books and furniture, all dating from the 1900s – 1980s.

What: The Yorkshire Cancer Appeal Gala Day 2010

It’s that time of year again for the Yorkshire Cancer Centre to host its second annual family fun-draising Gala Day in the beautiful surroundings of Roundhay Park!
So if you fancy doing something different with your weekend why not show your support for our cancer patients and enjoy a spectacular display from national parachute freefall team, the Red Devils as well as live music all day, a children’s funfair, barbeque and beer tent!

Held at Soldiers Field, the Gala is completely free to all, the only thing we ask is you consider giving a donation (big or small!) towards the Yorkshire Cancer Centre £10million Appeal, so that we can continue our life-saving work at our base at St. James’s Hospital.

Last year, thousands of visitors came along and helped us raise over £10,000 – this year we would love to beat this!

The Pillowman by Martin McDonagh

Hanrick Theatre company presents the highly acclaimed Martin McDonagh play ‘The Pillowman’.

A black comedy, it tells the tale of Katurian, a fiction writer living in a police state who is interrogated about the gruesome content of his short stories, and their similarities to a number of bizarre child murders occurring in his town.

The play received the 2004 Olivier Award for Best New Play and was nominated for the 2004 Evening Standard Award for Best New Play. Directed by Hannah Smallman and produced by Richard Galloway.
