Despite a number of early chances for Jermaine Beckford, Patrick Kisnorbo and Robert Snodgrass, the match remained goal-less.</span><br style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;" /><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;"><br />
But in the 66th minute, Southend United were handed a penalty after Leigh Bromby brought down striker Lee Barnard.</span><br style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;" /><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;"><br />
Leeds&#8217; keeper Shane Higgs then saved Barnard&#8217;s shot, earning a solitary point following an eight-match winning streak for the visitors.</span><br style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;" /><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif; font-weight: bold;"><br />
Leeds Utd FC: played 7, won 6, drawn 1, GD 9, position 1st, points 19</span><br style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;" /></p>
<hr style="width: 100%; font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif; height: 2px;" /><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;">On the 16th September, Leeds United captain Richard Naylor played an hour for the reserves in his first competitive game since May.</span><br style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;" /><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;"><br />
Naylor has undergone surgery on his back, and has been recovering over the summer.</span><br style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;" /><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;"><br />
Leeds United reserves beat Middlesborough 2 &#8211; 1 at the Riverside, with two goals in the first half from Tresor Kandol and Enoch Showunmi.</span><br style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;" /></p>

<span style="font-weight: bold;">(Lisbie 57pen)             (Johnson 47,<br />
Beckford 64)</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif; font-weight: bold;">Rumours this morning in the Independent spoke of a possible move for Jermaine Beckford to Bolton for 3million.</span><br style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;" /><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;"><br />
Leeds FC maintained their 100% record in the league with victory at the Community Stadium.</span><br style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;" /><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;"><br />
Leeds took the lead straight after the restart, with Bradley Johnson heading in a Robert Snodgrass free-kick.</span><br style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;" /><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;"><br />
Ten minutes later, Kevin Lisbie was fouled in the box by Rui Marques, and converted the penalty kick to equalise for the home side.</span><br style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;" /><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;"><br />
Just after the hour mark, however, Beckford was able to net the winner after a defensive header fell short.</span><br style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;" /><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;"><br />
<span style="font-weight: bold;">Leeds Utd FC: played 5, won 5, GD 7, position 2nd, points 15</span></span><br style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;" /></p>
<hr style="width: 100%; height: 2px;" /><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;"><br />
The 1st September saw ins and outs at Elland Road as the transfer window came to a close.</span><br style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;" /><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;"><br />
Leeds United defenders Tom Lees and Alan Sheehan have both gone out on loan, Lees to Accrington Stanley until January and Sheehan to Oldham Athletic on an initial one-month deal.</span><br style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;" /><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;"><br />
Both loanees faced each other the same evening, as Oldham hosted Stanley in the Johnstone Paint Trophy, the visitors winning the tie 2 &#8211; 1.</span><br style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;" /><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;"><br />
Leigh Bromby signed from Sheffield United, where he had not played so far this season, on a four-year deal.</span><br style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;" /><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;"><br />
The 29-year-old defender had signed a two-year deal at Bramall Lane in the summer, but told </span><a style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;" href="http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/l/leeds_united/8236664.stm"><span style="color: #800000;">BBC Radio Leeds</span></a><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;"> that Leeds&#8217; offer was just too god to turn down: <span style="font-weight: bold;">&#8220;I think Leeds tried to attract me with the offer. I&#8217;d like to finish my career here but obviously in a higher league.</span></span><br style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif; font-weight: bold;" /><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif; font-weight: bold;"><br />
&#8220;It&#8217;s a fantastic offer and I couldn&#8217;t turn it down.</span><br style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif; font-weight: bold;" /><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif; font-weight: bold;"><br />
&#8220;Obviously once I spoke to Simon [Grayson] and Leeds made their intentions clear and Sheffield made it clear that I wasn&#8217;t part of what was happening then it was an easy decision.</span><br style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif; font-weight: bold;" /><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif; font-weight: bold;"><br />
&#8220;But it wasn&#8217;t one I took lightly and I didn&#8217;t want to rush it. I am delighted I am here now.&#8221;</span><br style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;" /><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;"><br />
Bromby, a Leeds fan since childhood, hoped to make his debut against Stockport County.</span><br style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;" /><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;"><br />
After the deals for Jason Crowe and Patrick Kisnorbo, Bromby becomes Simon Grayson&#8217;s third defensive signing of this summer&#8217;s transfer window.</span><br style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;" /><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;"><br />
Following an impressive start at Leeds, striker Davide Somma has signed a contract for a one-year deal, with an option for the club to extend for a further season.</span><br style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;" /><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;"><br />
During pre-season, the 24-year old South African, who was raised in America and played for San Jose Earthquakes, clearly did enough for boss Simon Grayson: <span style="font-weight: bold;">&#8220;He has done enough to earn himself a contract. We have all been pleased with what we&#8217;ve seen.</span></span><br style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif; font-weight: bold;" /><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif; font-weight: bold;"><br />
&#8220;It&#8217;s an opportunity for us to have a closer look at the player and it&#8217;s a great opportunity for him.&#8221;</span><br style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;" /><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;"><br />
Somma joins a list of South Africans to have played for Leeds United FC before him, following Gerry Francis, Albert Johanneson, Phil Masinga and Lucas Radebe.</span><br style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;" /></p>

Leeds set two club records with an eighth straight victory since the start of the season and a 14th-successive home league win.</span><br style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;" /><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;"><br />
Two goals in the first half were enough to stop Stockport, Mike Grella scoring from a Bradley Johnson short pass and Lubomir Michalik sealing the win from six yards.</span><br style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;" /><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;"><br />
United were easily the better team, and could have had more. Robert Snodgrass took a penalty for Leeds, but it was a weak effort and easily saved.</span><br style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;" /><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;"><br />
LUFC manager Simon Grayson told </span><a style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;" href="http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/l/leeds_united/8240017.stm"><span style="color: #800000;">BBC Radio Leeds</span></a><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;">: <span style="font-weight: bold;">&#8220;I&#8217;m very proud to be in charge of a successful team and set these records.</span></span><br style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif; font-weight: bold;" /><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif; font-weight: bold;"><br />

<span style="font-weight: bold;">A tribunal on 7th September sees <span style="color: #800000;">Everton Football Club</span> ordered to pay Leeds an initial compensation fee of £600,000 for 16-year-old defender Luke Garbutt.</span></span><br style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;" /><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;"><br />
The Toffees were accused of &#8220;nicking&#8221; by Leeds United chairman Ken Bates, when the England youth international joined the Premier League club during the summer.</span><br style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;" /><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;"><br />
Both clubs agreed that a figure would be set by a tribunal of the Professional Football Negotiating and Consultative Committee (PFCC) - made up of representatives from the Football League and Premier League, as well as the Professional Footballers&#8217; Association and Football Association.</span><br style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;" /><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;"><br />
The initial compensation fee could rise by an additional £750,000 depending on appearances, and a further £200,000 if the player makes a senior international appearance. </span><br style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;" /><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;"><br />
Leeds will also receive 20% of any profit if Garbutt is sold on.</span><br style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;" /></p>

<p>In December the city will find out if the application to become a candidate city has been successful, and in December 2010, will discover if England will be hosting the 2018 event.</span><br style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;" /><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;"><br />
</span></p>
<h3><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;">If the city is successful, games would be held at the home of Leeds United, Elland Road.</span></h3>
<p><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;"><br />
Stadium improvements would have to be made so that it is capable of hosting matches up to and including quarter finals.<br />

<p><span style="font-weight: bold;">&#8220;The FA’s delegation saw some of the best of what Yorkshire can offer today including an internationally recognised football stadium, world-class training facilities and some of the best outdoor spaces in the country.</span></p>

</em></span><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;"><br />
Richard Brett, leader of Leeds City Council said &#8220;everything possible&#8221; was being done to ensure Leeds becomes a host city.</span><br style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;" /><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;"><br />
He said: <span style="font-weight: bold;">&#8220;The prospect of hosting World Cup matches is an exciting one.</span></span><br style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif; font-weight: bold;" /><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;"><span style="font-weight: bold;">&#8220;It will bring huge benefits to the city and surrounding area and ensure that all that is great about Leeds and Yorkshire is shown to audiences around the world.&#8221;</span></p>
<p>The FA team of delegates visited training sites and city centre hotels, as well as touring green spaces that could be transformed into possible areas for fans&#8217; villages.</p>
<p>Councillor Brett also said:<span style="font-weight: bold;">&#8220;</span></span><strong style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif; font-weight: bold;"> </strong><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif; font-weight: bold;">If successful, this bid will bring a slice of world football to the Leeds City Region.</span><br style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;" /><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;"> <br style="font-weight: bold;" /><span style="font-weight: bold;">&#8220;</span></span><span class="article_copy" style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;"><span style="font-weight: bold;">It is an opportunity to build on the region’s rich and proud sporting heritage and show the rest of the world what Yorkshire can offer</span>.</p>
<p><span style="font-weight: bold;">&#8220;Yorkshire has some of the most passionate football fans in the world and we need every single one to vote for Leeds at <span style="color: #800000;">backthebidleeds.com</span> &#8211; and help us bring football home to Leeds.”</span><br />

<p><span id="more-160"></span></p>
<div><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;">Leeds United manager Simon Grayson spoke out on 10th August to say that Jermaine Beckford is staying at Elland Road for now.</span></div>
<div><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;">Grayson told BBC Radio Leeds:</span></div>
<p><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;"> </span></p>
<div><span style="font-weight: bold;">&#8220;Everybody and anybody can speculate but I&#8217;ve said all along &#8211; Jermaine Beckford was injured today. <br style="font-weight: bold;" /><span style="font-weight: bold;">&#8220;He isn&#8217;t going anywhere &#8211; he&#8217;ll be here at the end of the season.&#8221; </span></span></div>
<div><span style="font-weight: bold;">Beckford, who was Leeds&#8217; top-scorer in 2008-2009,  was placed on the transfer list in May after rejecting an offer of a new contract, but has since been taken off it.</span></div>
<p><span style="font-weight: bold;">The 25-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season, and it is understood that West Bromwich Albion have made a substantial bid for the forward.</span></p>
<p>Beckford scored both goals in Leeds Utd&#8217;s 2-1 victory over Exeter on the 8th August, and Grayson insisted his absence on Monday was due to a knock from that game:</p>
<div><span style="font-weight: bold;">&#8220;He fell on his knee at the weekend and had a fitness test,&#8221; he said. &#8220;Contrary to speculation he wasn&#8217;t getting cup-tied or anything like that &#8211; he is injured.&#8221; </span></div>
<div><span style="font-weight: bold;">On the 12th August, Leeds United striker Mike Grella signed a new deal that will keep him at Elland Road for another three years: the 22-year-old American joined United in January after a trial period.</span></div>
<p><span style="font-weight: bold;"><span style="font-weight: bold;">&#8220;I&#8217;m absolutely delighted to have signed the deal,&#8221; Grella told the club&#8217;s website. </span><br style="font-weight: bold;" /><span style="font-weight: bold;">&#8220;I want to be part of the group and play as big a part as I possibly can in getting Leeds promoted, so we&#8217;ll have to wait to see how it plays out &#8221; </span></span></p>
<p>Grella made 11 appearances for Leeds last season, but has yet to score a first-team goal:</p>
<div><span style="font-weight: bold;">&#8220;I am sure the goals will come for me, I&#8217;m relaxed enough to score as many goals as possible.&#8221;</span></div>
<div><span style="font-weight: bold;">Listen to Mike Grella speaking to <a href="http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/l/leeds_united/8201726.stm">BBC Radio Leeds</a>.</span></div>

<p><br style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;" /><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif; font-weight: bold;">Saturday, 15th August 2009</span><br style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;" /><br style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;" /><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;"><span style="font-weight: bold;">Wycombe Wanderers 0 &#8211; 1 Leeds United</span><br />
</span><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif; font-weight: bold;"> (Becchio 61)</span></p>
<div><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;">Luciano Becchio&#8217;s goal in the second-half gave Leeds three away points at newly-promoted Wycombe.</span></div>
<div><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;">The home side had a chance of taking an early lead, but United keeper Shane Higgs easily stopped Chris Zebroski&#8217;s shot. This was followed by two chances for a returning Jermaine Beckford to the Leeds FC starting line-up, who first grazed the post before shooting wide.</span></div>
<p><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;">But the second half was dominated by the visitors, with Becchio getting the winner on the hour.</span></p>
<p>Boss Simon Grayson said after the game:</p>
<div><span style="font-weight: bold;">&#8220;When you win the first three games of the season you&#8217;ve got to be delighted and obviously we are. <br style="font-weight: bold;" /><span style="font-weight: bold;">&#8220;Second half I thought we were excellent. We didn&#8217;t let Wycombe out of their half. </span><br style="font-weight: bold;" /><span style="font-weight: bold;">&#8220;Becchio and Beckford are bang in form at the moment, they&#8217;re a handful for any defence at this level.&#8221;</span></span></div>
<div><span style="font-weight: bold;">Hear Simon Grayson speaking to <a href="http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/l/leeds_united/8203392.stm">BBC Radio Leeds</a>.</span></div>
<p><span style="font-weight: bold;"><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif; font-weight: bold;">Leeds Utd FC: played 2, won 2, GD 2, position 3rd, points 6</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;"><br />
</span></span></p>
<hr style="width: 100%; height: 2px;" />
<div><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;">An upbeat Simon Grayson talked up his strikers on 17th August:</span></div>
<p><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;"> </span></p>
<div><span style="font-weight: bold;">&#8220;[Jermaine Beckford and Luciano Becchio] will give Premier League defenders a difficult time,&#8221; he said. <br style="font-weight: bold;" /><span style="font-weight: bold;">&#8220;Hopefully they&#8217;ll get 50 or 60 goals between them to get us promoted this season, 70 or 80 would be ideal but that&#8217;s probably pushing it a bit.&#8221; </span></span></div>
<div><span style="font-weight: bold;">Last season, Becchio scored 19 and Beckford 30 in all competitions. Both have been on the scoresheet for this season&#8217;s unbeaten run.</span></div>
<p><span style="font-weight: bold;"> </span></p>
<hr style="width: 100%; height: 2px;" /><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;"><br />

<div><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;">Leeds make it three wins from three in a dramatic late win over Walsall.</span></div>
<div><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;">The home team went ahead in the 79th minute when Sam Parkin converted a penalty, after United&#8217;s Rui Marques had brought down Steve Jones.</span></div>
<p><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;">Within five minutes, Andy Robinson&#8217;s corner found Bradley Johnson who scored the equaliser at the far post, with last season&#8217;s top-scorer Beckford netting Leeds&#8217; winner just minutes later.</span></p>
<p>Leeds manager Grayson said after the match:</p>
<p><span style="font-weight: bold;">&#8220;When you get a victory late on and with a quality strike like that it&#8217;s obviously going to be a very happy camp. </span><br style="font-weight: bold;" /><span style="font-weight: bold;">&#8220;It&#8217;s places like Walsall and Wycombe you have to go and get results and today has showed we&#8217;ve got the character and belief that we can go and win anywhere we go to.&#8221; </span></p>

</span></p>
<div><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;">Bradley Johnson and Jermaine Beckford were on the scoresheet for the second match in a row, as a powerful Leeds display gave the home side an easy victory against Tranmere Rovers.</span></div>
<div><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;">Beckford had already hit the postearly on, and on the quarter-hour mark Johnson capitalised on a parry by from Rovers&#8217; keeper Luke Daniels from Luciano Becchio&#8217;s header.</span></div>
<p><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;">Beckford had the home side two up by the break, and echoing the first goal, Becchio headed a rebound from a Johnson shot to confirm Leeds Utd&#8217;s superiority.</span></p>
<p>Boss Simon Grayson said:</p>
<div><span style="font-weight: bold;">&#8220;We started exactly how we wanted, with a high tempo and really pressing them and I think Jermaine (Bekford) could have had a hat-trick within the first 10 minutes. <br style="font-weight: bold;" /><span style="font-weight: bold;">&#8220;For me the best bit of it all was the work-rate of the team throughout the whole match, plus our passing was excellent. </span><br style="font-weight: bold;" /><span style="font-weight: bold;">&#8220;If their keeper didn&#8217;t make the saves he did we could have won by much more. Everything came together for us today.&#8221; </span></span></div>

<div><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;">Two goals from Robert Snodgrass earn Leeds a hard-fought victory over Championship side Watford.</span></div>
<div><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;">The Scottish winger opened the scoring just before the break, and would have been enough but for Marvin Sordell equalising just before full time in a thrilling match between two well-matched teams.</span></div>
<p><span style="font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;">But then a second strike from Snodgrass in the first half of extra-time was enough to take the home side through to Carling Cup Round three.</span></p>

The chairman of Huddersfield Town found out about Leeds United’s money problems and loaned LUFC £35,000 , with a clause that stipulated that the loan would have to be repaid once United gained promotion to the First Division, the chairman also brought professional football manager Arthur Fairclough from Barnsley to succeed Dick Ray, who had led them from the Midland League.</span><br style="font-family: Arial;" /><br style="font-family: Arial;" /><span style="font-family: Arial;">By 1924, Leeds finally managed to gain promotion to the First Division and repaid its debt. Unfortunately however, Leeds United never fully consolidated its position in League One, and LUFC found themselves moving yo-yoing between Divisions One and Two until 1965.</span><br style="font-family: Arial;" /><br style="font-family: Arial;" /><span style="font-family: Arial;">From 1965 to 1974, Leeds United Football Club entered a golden era, when they never finished below fourth place in the First Division and won the league twice, with numerous cup competition wins also.</span><br style="font-family: Arial;" /><br style="font-family: Arial;" /><span style="font-family: Arial;">But between 1975 and 1988 United’s fortunes declined, and Leeds found themselves back in the second tier of English football.</span><br style="font-family: Arial;" /><br style="font-family: Arial;" /><span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-family: Arial;"><img class="alignright size-full wp-image-115" style="margin: 20px 30px;" title="leeds-united-by-lomardo_uk-at-flickr" src="http://directoryofleeds.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/leeds-united-by-lomardo_uk-at-flickr.jpg" alt="leeds-united-by-lomardo_uk-at-flickr" width="309" height="229" /></span>Another golden time arrived in 1988 and the revival of Leeds as a force in modern football occurred under the management of Howard Wilkinson, who held charge until 1995. During this period, Leeds United FC were promoted in 1990 as Second Division champions, and managed to win the First Division Championship in 1992, consolidating a long stay in top flight football. Wilkinson left United in 1996 but his work paved the way for a period of continued success for LUFC between the years of 1996 and 2001. This time saw Leeds manage semi-final positions in both European cup competitions and third in the English Premiership.</span><br style="font-family: Arial;" /><br style="font-family: Arial;" /><span style="font-family: Arial;">After 2001, Leeds United’s fortunes faded as financial issues dogged the club: these financial problems saw Leeds sell most if not all of their highest quality players. Even after such wholesale selling, the LUFC’s financial problems were still apparent.</span><br style="font-family: Arial;" /><br style="font-family: Arial;" /><span style="font-family: Arial;">In 2004 Leeds United FC was finally sold on to stabilize the financial situation, but unfortunately lasting damage had already been done and the club slowly drifted into the lower leagues. </span><br style="font-family: Arial;" /><br style="font-family: Arial;" /></span></p>
<h3 style="text-decoration: underline;"><span style="color: #000000;"><span style="font-family: Arial;">Elland Road</span></span></h3>
<p><span style="color: #000000;"><br style="font-family: Arial;" /><span style="font-family: Arial;">Elland Road has been the home ground for Leeds United FC since their creation in 1919.</span><br style="font-family: Arial;" /><br style="font-family: Arial;" /><span style="font-family: Arial;">Leeds United Football Club owned the Elland Road football ground from the 1960s until 1983, and from 1997 to 2004 when the club sold the ground and entered into a 25 year lease back contract. Previously in the past when the club didn’t own Elland Road, it was in the ownership of Leeds Council.</span><br style="font-family: Arial;" /><br style="font-family: Arial;" /><span style="font-family: Arial; font-weight: bold;">Address:</span><br style="font-family: Arial;" /><br style="font-family: Arial;" /><span style="font-family: Arial;">Leeds United Football Club</span><br style="font-family: Arial;" /><span style="font-family: Arial;">Elland Road</span><br style="font-family: Arial;" /><span style="font-family: Arial;">Leeds</span><br style="font-family: Arial;" /><span style="font-family: Arial;">LS11 0ES</span><br style="font-family: Arial;" /><br style="font-family: Arial;" /><span style="font-family: Arial;">Tel: 0113 226 6000</span></span></p>
